Entries are now being taken for the annual KING OF THE MOUNTAIN 5km Fun Run held at North Brother Mountain on Sunday 17th June.  This event has a long history of pitting competitors against the toughest hill this side of the Pyrenees and will prove a formidable task for anyone daring to enter.

This year sees huge prize-money up for grabs with $500 for both the first placed male and female, as well as $250 for the first placed boy and the first placed girl under 16yrs of age.  The event, which is generously sponsored by LJ Hooker Laurieton, will also make a contribution towards the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Wow, what a great IM weekend we just had – and with more info filtering through from various sources such as the Kona roll-down, the meltdown tonight, the coming volunteers party on Tuesday night, the 5km Fun Run results to come, or the online feedback regarding the weekend, it’s been hard to keep up with the whirlwind of info.

Congratulations to all our Ironman finishers yesterday.  Whether you were a first-timer, racing for a new PB, or returning to the long stuff after a few years’ absence, all our local competitors put on a fantastic display. I think the fashionable Club athlete of the day has to go to John H though – great outfit Heckers!

There was fantastic spectator support out along the course all day and all night long too.  Whether it was the breakwall, Matthew Flinders Drive, the Observatory, or even those who drove down to Laurieton for a look, the competitors have reported the local support was brilliant all day.  And that finish line atmosphere just gets more and more pumped each year thanks to the input of the local contingent in the Town Green

And special congratulations to all our members who donned a red shirt over the weekend.  The ability for this community to keep putting up huge numbers of super-efficient volunteers is clearly one of the reasons why the event is such a success in Port Macquarie. Pat yourselves on the back guys – you do us all proud.

What a fantastic race weekend it was down at Forster once again. With lower expectations given the huge resurgence by Coffs this season and the Ironman date clash, Port still managed to finish 6th top Club in the state, only 1 spot and a handful of points behind Coffs!

There was plenty of local support with Port spectators lining the bike and run courses. Volunteer-wise, the registration tent felt like we were at McInherney Park with the number of familiar faces in there. And of course there were some great results across all Age Groups, with a couple of AG winners, a few top 5s, and plenty others who entrenched themselves into their respective top-30. And how good was it to see the Club supporters right there to the end of the race to watch some of our first-timers (and 17-race veterans!) make it safely home.

We can’t list all individual results without fear of missing someone out.  In fact, the need to have results pages filtered “by Club” was one initiative for ALL race directors that was discussed at the President’s Breakfast yesterday. Needless to say there were fantastic results across the Board. It’s interesting to note that we managed to beat Coffs Harbour last year with 20 less members competing than they did. And despite Coffs’ big push leading up to the event, we went surprisingly close this year with an even greater gap again.  So clearly, there’s an argument to be made about the quality results that PMTC keep producing!

And obviously we wouldn’t have performed half as well without the great support from our volunteers who made the trip down – Tim, Alison, Trish + Nik, Mandy + Hudson, Hooley, Brett, Ron, Michelle, Jo, Peter (again, we’re really sorry if we missed some names) – thank you for your support.  Coming 6th Club overall in the State is no mean feat beating home the likes of Coogee, Macarthur, BRATS, Central Coast, Panthers, Forster and Sydney Triathlon Group.

As the TriNSW website states :

“Those who think Triathlon is not a team sport, have not been to a NSW Club Champs.”

So well done team!
