Club Coaching
Club Coaching
.
As mentioned briefly on the Training Page, PMTC offers free coaching opportunities to any interested members, with a particular emphasis on those new to the sport. These sessions are to be undertaken by the well-known local fitness icon and fellow Club member, Mike Reid.
Mike started racing back in the 1991-92 season progressing through short course, then toward longer races and three Ironmans. Mike has spent 2 years as the chairman of this triathlon club, 6 years as chairman of the local Long Course and Ironman Organising Committee, and has been the current deputy chairman of the LOC for 4 years.
Mike was accredited as a coach in 2006 and since then has coached over 30 competitors from those starting at short course, to some who have now completed ½ and full Ironmans. He is currently coaching around a dozen local athletes for half ironmans and has a few locals signed up and training for their first Ironman in 2012.
Mike’s philosophy is to place importance on competitors learning what they can early rather than making mistakes, developing bad habits and thus affecting their racing and enjoyment of the sport.
Under Mike’s guidance, the Club proposes to run some coaching days for beginners, and for club members to improve on what they have already achieved.

Session Times
.
Mike holds a swim session on Monday afternoons @Wauchope Pool starting @6.00pm. The training session is free for all Club members, although normal pool entry still needs to be paid. Mike will offer a few drills, tips, and have a look at your stroke technique for you. All ages/genders catered for.
Mike will also be holding a track running session @Oxley Oval on Wednesday mornings at 6am for one hour. If your speed over the run is not improving this is a good way to get that to happen. All capabilities will be catered for, so don’t feel you wont fit in. There will be no charge for this session either.
Under Mike’s guidance, Russell Kilpatrick is also running a series of fortnightly bike skills/safety sessions also. These will again be primarily aimed at the new cyclists, however each session will be tailored to suit the skill-sets of the individuals. The schedule for these sessions and a brief description of what you can expect, is detailed in the attachment below. All sessions will start @Stuart Park in the eastern carpark near the indoor stadium.
